Hypnosis is a natural state of the mind, which is akin to deep relaxation. Whilst you are in hypnosis, you will be deeply relaxed, you are not asleep in an ‘unconscious sleep’, like when you go to sleep at night, it is a different kind of sleep a ‘conscious sleep’ your body is asleep but your mind is fully awake, you will hear everything that I say to you.
Everyone experiences hypnosis regularly. Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation that we experience every single day – during daydreaming, reading a good book, and the state between waking and falling asleep. When you are relaxed in this way it is possible to make contact with your subconscious mind, in order to effect change in your life. The subconscious mind is the seat of all your emotions and therefore directs nearly all your behaviour.
The conscious mind is the reasoning mind, and it has a memory factor in it which recalls all the times we have tried to stop certain behaviour but failed. This factor is called the critical factor or criticizing factor in the conscious mind and it is only when you are in the hypnotic state that we are able to bypass the critical factor which allows new positive suggestion to go straight into your subconscious mind and changes your behaviour. The subconscious mind is like a computer, it stores everything that we have experienced through our senses that it everything we see, touch, taste, smell and even think. These experiences forms the basis of our behaviour and this is a reason why we do what we do even though sometimes we don’t want to do it and we are desperate to change. When we are in hypnosis the new suggestions starts new programming in the subconscious mind which in turn results in us changing our behaviour
